Weekly Update & Music For A Friday

It's been relatively quiet around the studio this week, providing me the opportunity to finish up the E-Promo email blast begun last week. So far, response has been the best received yet to any previous self-promo efforts. There have even been a couple of calls for meet & shows of the portfolio... also in the process of being updated and reorganized. There's been an assignment already generated from the campaign (always a good thing) so I'm off the Oahu on Monday for an editorial assignment destined for future page(s) in California's Via Magazine. 

On the weekend front, things are looking anything but quiet. In addition to the usual domestic duties, tomorrow there are two shoots for children involved in the A Keiki's Dream program. While this is a pro-bono gig, I am always more than happy to help out with these kids. This time, we have two kids scheduled, both are musicians who have been sponsored to record CD's of their work as a part of their dream. Our mission is to capture photographs to be used as CD cover art. Then, up to the lofty volcano elevations for a fine meal & spirited conversation with friends and colleagues. Early Sunday morning (and for the next six weeks), I'll be covering the Sunday Solstice radio program, sharing the Celtic Music both traditional and not so at Manao Radio, 91.5 FM. The Throwdowns @ Barryfest 2010

The Throwdowns are everywhere these days. I had the opportunity to work loosely with them again as they stormed the stage to lend their considerable collective talents at Barryfest 2010, the annual all day concert & fundraiser for Maui's best listener-supported, non-commercial radio station, Manao Radio 91.5 FM. They KILLED!

I have received several calls and requests recently for copies of the playlist from my Tuesday morning radio program The Academy of Errors. Those of you wanting to listen in can find it on the radio dial if you live here on Maui (West side and parts of South Maui don't get reception) by turning your radio to 91.5FM. Those of you out of signal's range can listen via live internet streaming by going to Manao Radio (click on link). The program airs every Tuesday morning from 6-10am Hawaii (CPT) time.

I haven't been saving playlists for quite some time now but figured the easiest way to clue you in to what was heard was to scan my sloppy, scribbled notes and post them here. Good luck deciphering my illegible handwriting!

Just One More, 'Cause It's Never Enough

I like to drop in every once in a while to photographer Emily Shur's "My Four Eyed Fantasy" blog to see what's up. Today, Emily posted about attending a concert by The Cure at L.A.'s famed Troubadour Club. This reminded me of the hours spent during the '80's listening to the dark, dreary, mesmerizing sounds of Robert Smith & Co. and of this... one of my all time favorite music videos.

Perhaps I'll spin a Cure tune or two tomorrow morning on my weekly radio program "The Academy of Errors" at Manao radio. Maui listeners can tune in from 6-10 AM at 91.5 FM every Tuesday morning.Those of you out of signal range can catch the program via live internet streaming here.

Monday's Bizness

As promised, on October 3rd, James Nachtwey unveiled his TED Award wish to change the world, displayed projections of his images of victims suffering from XDRTB, an extremely drug-resistant strain of Tuberculosis, on selected public building around the world, on the TED website and linked from a multitude of different blogs from around the world. Erika Scott is a former Maui girl who left the island several years ago to seek her fame & fortunes in Los Angeles & New York as an acclaimed wardrobe stylist. Erika's recently returned home, though  she still travels back & forth to the mainland to work on projects. Below, you can see samples of Erika's work.
